Privacy
The short version: Cardi has no accounts, no ads and no tracking. Your settings stay on your phone. Your location is only used to get the weather where you are. We count how the app is used, anonymously, so we know what to improve.
What Cardi uses, and why
- Your location. If you allow it, Cardi uses your phone’s location to get the forecast for where you are. Cardi sends the coordinates to a weather service to fetch the forecast and doesn’t store them anywhere except your phone. You can pick a city instead and leave location off.
- Your preferences. Your name, the times you leave and get home, how you run hot or cold, your hair type, what you usually wear and your chosen look are saved on your phone only. They’re never sent to us.
- Your “bit chilly” and “too warm” answers. These tune your personal feels like. They stay on your phone.
- Notifications. The morning heads-up is created on your phone from the forecast. There’s no notification server, and nothing about you is sent to make it.
Weather services
Cardi gets forecasts from Apple Weather. If Apple Weather isn’t available, it uses Open-Meteo instead. To return a forecast, these services receive the location you asked about. See Apple’s privacy policy and Open-Meteo’s terms.
Anonymous usage counts
To see how many people use Cardi and which parts help, the app sends anonymous events to Aptabase, a privacy-first analytics service. For example: the app was opened (and whether from the icon, a widget or the morning notification), setup was finished, or a day in Week was tapped. Once a day it also sends which kinds of Cardi widget are on your screens and which features you have switched on, like hair or the morning heads-up.
These events contain no name, email, location, contacts or advertising ID, and no device identifier. They can’t be linked to you and aren’t used to track you across apps or websites. Read more in Aptabase’s privacy policy.
What Cardi doesn’t do
- No account, sign-up or password in the app.
- No advertising, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- No analytics that identify you, and no crash-reporting tools.
- We don’t sell or share your information.
The waitlist and feature ideas
If you join the waitlist or send an idea on our website, we keep your email address (and your name and idea, if you give them) so we can tell you when Cardi launches and whether we build your idea. These are stored with our email provider, Kit. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your details at any time.
Deleting your data
Everything the app knows about you lives on your phone. Delete Cardi and it’s gone. To be removed from the waitlist, use the unsubscribe link or email us.
Children
Cardi isn’t directed at children under 13 and doesn’t knowingly collect information from them.
